On one of the hottest days of the year so far, tourists and Parisians have been enjoying the pleasures of the beach - in the heart of Paris. City Mayor Bertrand Delanoe declared the beaches open on Tuesday (July 20) and immediately sunseekers arrived to take advantage of the resort atmosphere.


올해 들어 가장 기온이 높은 날, 파리 주민과 관광객들이 파리 한복판에 있는 '인공해변'에서 즐거운 시간을 보냈다. 베르트랑 들라노에(Bertrand Delanoe) 파리 시장이 20일(현지 시간) 인공해변의 개장을 공표하자마자 햇빛 쬐기를 좋아하는 사람들이 휴양지 분위기의 이점을 즐기기 위해 몰려들었다.


The view from the loungers is not of a blue sea, but of the River Seine, complete with tourists boats and cargo ships, but visitors seemed happy with the chance to enjoy a bit of seaside atmosphere and relaxation in the heart of the city.


이 곳을 찾은 사람들의 눈에 비친 풍경은 푸른 바다가 아닌, 관광객들을 실은 배와 화물선이 오고 가는 센(Seine)강 이다. 그러나 이 곳을 방문한 사람들은 도시 한복판에서 해변 분위기를 느낄 수 있고 휴식을 취할 수 있다는 점에서 행복한 표정들이다.


Visitors tried their hand at the traditional French game of petanque, children ran through mists of cooling water, adults just sat and lazed. Reading books and perfecting a suntan were the favourite occupations.


프랑스 전통 구기놀이인 페탕크를 즐기는 방문객도 보였다. 아이들은 냉각수가 이슬비 처럼 내리는 곳을 뛰어 다니고 어른들은 그저 앉아있거나 느긋하게 시간을 보냈다. 독서와 선탠이 이 곳을 찾은 사람들이 가장 즐기는 것이다.


'Paris Plage' has been a feature of summer in Paris since 2002. It was an idea invented by the mayor of Paris to give everyone the opportunity to enjoy the pleasures of the seaside even if they didn't have the time or money to get away. Now, it's become a permanent feature of the Paris calendar.


'파리 플라주(Paris Plage)'는 지난 2002년 이후 여름철 파리를 대표하는 곳으로 자리 잡았다. 이 인공해변의 아이디어는 파리 시장이 냈다. 시간 또는 돈이 없어 멀리 떠나지 못하는 사람을 포함해 모든 이에게 해변에서 즐기는 것 같은 즐거움을 주고자 하는 의도였다. 이제 이 인공해변 조성은 파리 당국의 연간 주요업무에서 매년 빼먹지 말아야 할 일이 됐다.


The sands, palm trees, deckchairs, and petanque pitches were installed by workmen overnight. The sands are recycled and arrive by boat .


모래사장, 야자 나무, 덱체어(접이 의자), 페탕크 볼은 인부들이 밤새 작업을 통해 설치했다. 모래는 재활용되며 배로 싣고 온다.


Parisians woke up to find everything already in place for a holiday close to home. But the atmosphere was cosmopolitan. Polish tourists Marta and Peter said they were delighted to discover the beach. They thought they had to choose between holidaying in the city or at the beach. Now they'd discovered they could have both after all.


파리 시민들은 집 가까이에서 휴가를 보낼 수 있는 장소를 알게 되었다. 그러나 '파리 플라주'는 세계적인 명소이다. 폴란드에서 온 관광객 마르타와 피터 씨는 이 곳을 발견하게 돼 기쁘다고 말했다. 그들은 도시와 해변 중 어느 곳에서 휴가를 보낼지 생각했다. 이제 그들은 둘 모두에서 휴가를 보낼 수 있는 장소를 찾았다.
