Selling a work of corpse for 100 million won, moral or immoral? 

So-called “the work of corpse” by a prominent German anatomist is now under criticism.
 
According to the media reports in England and German on Oct. 22, the artist is Gunther von Hagen, who has become famous for inventing the way to maintain corpses in the condition before death by inserting silicon rubber epoxy resin and polyester synthetic resin after the complete removal of the water inside.
 
He has held the exhibition “The Mystery of Human Body” worldwide and shared the specimens of real human body with the visitors. 
 
Currently running an online shop selling his works of corpse, he charges a body 70,000euros (about 100 million won), a head 55,000euros (about 86 million won) and a trunk 20,000euros (about 31 million won).  
 
However, religion groups are showing a great dissatisfaction with him making profits out of the bodies of the dead.  Although the sales are made only to the people involved in research, many think it’s still immoral. 
 
The media, on the other hand, questions the possible involvement of illegally traded corpses from China and Russia in his business.
 

1구당 1억원 '시신 예술품' 판매

독일 출신의 저명한 해부학자와 그가 만든 이른바 '시신 예술품'이 논란에 휩싸였다.

22일 영국 및 독일 언론들의 보도에 따르면, 논란의 주인공은 독일의 해부학자 군터 폰 하겐스. 그는 시신에서 수분을 제거하고 실리콘 고무 에폭시 또는 폴리에스테르 합성수지 등을 주입해 살아있는 듯한 상태로 시신을 보존하는 방법을 고안한 인물이다.

군터 폰 하겐스는 '인체의 신비전'이라는 제목으로 세계 각국에서 표본화된 시신을 전시하는 대규모 행사를 열기도 했는데, '시신 예술품'을 판매하는 온라인 쇼핑몰을 개설했다는 것이 언론의 설명이다. 시신 예술품 한 구의 가격은 70,000유로(약 1억원)이며, 몸통 및 머리는 각각 55,000 유로 (약 8,600만원)및 20,000유로(약 3,100만원)에 구입할 수 있다.
 
저명한 해부학자의 '시신 예술품 거래'에 종교계 등에서 크게 반발하고 있다고 언론은 전했다. 비록 연구 목적을 가진 이들에게만 판매한다고 하지만 시신을 상품으로 만들어 판매하는 행위가 죽은 자에 대한 예의가 아니며, 망자를 이용해 장사를 하고 있다는 것이 비판의 내용이다. 또 중국, 러시아 등에서 불법적으로 판매된 시신이 이용될 가능성도 있다고 언론들은 덧붙였다.
